hi everyone, huiyi again.
the following are the list of food and materials you have to bring for the class outing.

Food
1. Seaweed Chicken (20) - 1 person

2. Drinks - 3 people (carry 2 each)*
-100 Plus (1.5 l) x2
-coke/pepsi/apple soda/ other sodas (1.5 l) x2
-green tea/ ice lemon tea (1.5 l)x 2
*if your parents are sending you there or you live near the area, please volunteer to bring drinks as they are quite heavy and troublesome to lug onto the mrt/bus.

3. Fruits (2 people)
- Seedless grapes (purple/green)
- Watermelon/ rock melon/ honeydew(1)

4. Chips - 1 person
-Lays Classic
-Ruffles Sour Cream & Onion
- Doritos' Nachos Cheese

5. Nuggets (20)- 1 person

6. Forks, disposable cups - 1 person

we will be ordering pizza, so we do not need that much food.
be prepared to pay around $3 for the pizza. each person should be able to get 2-3 pieces each; there should be enough to go around.

Materials to bring for activities
1. kites - as many as possible
2. ground sheets/mats for sitting on - 5
3. water guns - as many as possible
4. frisbee - 3
5. ball (any type) - 3

if you can, please bring around 2 of the materials for the games as we may not have enough materials or people to bring the materials if everyone just brings one each. please respond quickly as we dont have much time left.
if you have any other questions/concerns about the class outing, you can sms me or the other semester 2 councillors.

HI GUYS! FIRST BLOG POST HERE!!! (finally got the email right)
Now, for the 20 or so people going for the class outing:

1) We're ordering CANADIAN PIZZA for the class outing! (Yes! We're so awesome that Canadian pizza is willing to deliver all the way to Marina Barrage) Anyone have allergies? We're ordering: Beef Pepperoni, Hawaiian, Beef Bacon Cheeseburger and BBQ Chicken Bonanza. Sorry for the all meat selection but it's the best we can find. No vegetarians right?

2) So please bring about $3-$4 JUST FOR THE PIZZA! (this is very important, the pizza man doesn'y accept NETS or credit cards or cheques honeys :p) And bring money for whatever miscellaneous purpose there could be. Try not to bring too much. Maybe $20?

3) Well, we still need chips and drinks and etc, like LAYS, DORITOS and RUFFLES, 100 PLUS, COKE/PEPSI, ICE LEMON TEA/GREEN TEA. Hui Yi will post the list of food and etc. Since no one VOLUNTEERED to bring any, we have to assign :/ If you guys aren't able to bring what you're assigned, no worries, trade with someone, okay?

4) Ok, I'm sorry to say we CANNOT hold the Amazing Race thing. I know a lot of you were looking forward to it, but I'm sorry to say we can't hold it. It's just not practical at Marina Barrage guys. Many apologies ><>DON'T FORGET THE LYRICS!!! So I reccomend you all take time off from mugging to study some lyrics too, okay? ;)

5) Bring ENTERTAINMENT! I warn you, you guys may be easily bored at Marina, so bring kites and water guns and whatever. Note: Do bring an extra set of clothes, you may want to play in the fountain, so when you come, wear shirts that don't become see through when wet ok?

Yup! That's all! :D HAPPY MUGGING AND CHIONGING HOMEWORK IN OUR (GASP) LAST WEEK OF THE HOLIDAYS!!! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!

june hols class outing @ marina barrage, 23 june
Wednesday, June 2, 2010 / 10:38 PM

hi guys,
this is huiyi(:

if you're worrying about how to get to marina barrage, i have some instructions on how to get there. hope it helps!

if you're going from somewhere along the north south line (aka red line): take the NS line to marina bay mrt station.

if you're going from somewhere along the north east line (aka purple line): take the NE line to dhoby ghaut, then change to the NS line and take to marina bay mrt station.

if you're going from somewhere along the east west line (aka green line): take the EW line to city hall , then change to the NS line and take to marina bay mrt station.

if you're going from somewhere along the circle line (aka yellow/orange line): take the circle line to either dhoby ghaut or bishan, then change to the NS line and take to marina bay mrt station.

so, here comes the question that has been nagging your minds: how do i get from marina bay mrt station to marina barrage?

you can take bus no.400 or the marina barrage shuttle bus from the bus stop near the mrt station. click on the link to see the schedule/timings for bus no.400 and the marina barrage shuttle bus. there will be another link in the website for you to see the actual map if you're not too clear.

if you dont know where to take the mrt from/to, there is another link to see the mrt map.

and regarding the food for our picnic there, can everyone please take the initaive to volunteer to bring some food? you wont want to go there and starve with no food to eat right? and we cant possibly eat at the restaurant there unless you are filthy rich.

sorry i may sound naggy like your grandma, but if this is not done properly, we will have a failed class outing.

hope to hear from you guys soon! (:(:

Class Outing @ Marina Barrage: FOOD!
Saturday, May 29, 2010 / 1:47 PM

Hi guys. Sam here.

Hui Yi, Pei Shan and I were discussing the food we should bring for the upcoming class outing. Finger food would be best, and here's a rough suggestion:

  • Seaweed Chicken
  • Sandwiches (egg mayo, tuna, ham?)
  • Sushi (maybe a few people order and we split the cost? Pretty ex.)
  • Drinks (people whose parents can fetch, please speak out now - hard to lug onto MRT)
  • Fruits (Seedless grapes, sliced melon pieces)
  • Bee hoon
  • Cherry tomatoes
  • Nuts
  • Fried rice
  • Chips
  • Nuggets
  • Curry Puff
  • Sausage
  • Fish balls
Of course not too much of each item.

Any suggestions/complaints? Comment on this post. We'll check really often - I'll be checking maybe hourly.
If you can bring any one of the food items, we operate on a first come first serve basis. SMS either me or Hui Yi and mention how much you're planning to bring. We'll update the class blog immediately on what's been taken.

*Please try to be healthy because I don't want a situation where everyone brings chips and junk food. Ick.

correction with the math portfolio instruction thingy
/ 11:01 AM

HEY
Remember i said that the mass should be in grams and the total cost should be in $/kg? Shuen Yew smsed me and told me that on the portfolio handout, it stated that the cost was in $/g.

I think we should follow the one on the handout since it is uniform for the rest of the cohort. Thus, ignore the statement to change the g to kg in the portfolio instructions thingy. thanks loads, people(especially Shuen Yew:D)

OH AND ANOTHER THING. You know the part about adding values to the original number to achieve a range of numbers? The values I used were big because I didn't really have time to think. Actually, the smaller the value, the better, like 0.2 or 0.5 etc. So don't take the example too seriously. hehe (thanks to jillian for the tip~)

HAPPY HOLIDAYS~

see you all @ class outing^.+

Instructions for math portfolio (roughly)
Wednesday, May 26, 2010 / 10:16 PM

HELLO. Welcome to the roughly-put-together, not-very-accurate instruction sheet for the math portfolio. Read if you need(: THANK YOU.

Ok

The contents of this entry will be as following:

1. Arrangement of the presentation table
2. Formulas for calculation (THIS IS EXTREMELY IMPORTANT. it is required in your final piece you hand up)
3. AND other miscellaneous stuff that you have to take note of.

WOOHOO.

1. Arrangement of the presentation table

a) Columns and headers

In case you were wondering what are columns, they are the vertical rows in a table. Headers are… well… the headers, ‘kay?

EXAMPLE TIME!!

(sorry... my camera's resolution sucks)

This (look up^) is a table. The purple row is the header and the cells highlighted in yellow (including the header… but because I can’t highlight it yellow and purple at once…) is a column.

b) The arrangement.

So basically, the headers for the first 4 columns will be default for everyone:
1. length of cuboid
2. width of cuboid
3. height of cuboid
4. volume of cuboid

MOVING ON.

The rest of the columns will be similar, except with different headings.

Example,

For the cylinder:

• radius of cylinder
• height of cylinder
• volume of cylinder

For the cube

• length of cube
• width of cube
• height of cube
• volume of cube

NB> always have the volume of the shape/object at the end of everything, like the cuboid (way above^) example.

c) Amount of columns you’ll need

You are supposed to have columns for every shape you have. At the very end, you are supposed to have the total volume, total mass and cost. The total mass and cost varies with the material you have decided to use.

ANOTHER EXAMPLE:

(Fill in the cost according to the portfolio instructions or whatever. Everyone has to do two materials so remember to repeat twice for both materials)*

*CORRECTION. THE TOTAL COST WILL REMAIN IN $/G. NO NEED TO CONVERT. THANKS(:

d) The PROPER way of keying in all your info

Now comes the harder part >_>

(This part needs a lot of reference to the formulas section.)

*Ahem* to key in all your info, you first need… your info!

Ok, fine. I’ll be serious-.-

This is how you are supposed to key in your info.

Take the base as an example (EXAMPLE PEOPLE!!!! Do not take this as an actual answer)

After doing the obvious, you start to type in all your details. Take my desired length of cuboid and width of cuboid to be 12 and 8 respectively.
You do not start with 12 cm in the length column and 8 cm in the width column.

Seriously. Don’t.

You do… this:

YEAP! You do that.

WHY? Because besides calculating your actual volume, mass, cost whatever, you have to give the marker (grader, teacher, whatever) a range of feasible volume, mass, cost and whatever. So you have to come up with a pattern on your own and apply it.

Geddit? No? RE-READ

Then you key the formula for adding a fixed value to the original number a.k.a =(column and row of the cell of the original number)+value you want to add
(Refer to the formulas section for examples)

Then you drag using the black, plus-like cross function and…

GASP A MIRACLE
Not really actually… it just that the formula is too cool (FORMULAS HAHAHAHAHA<33333)>

now you do the same to the other one...

Ta-daaa~

Got it? YAY.

Now, we calculate the volume~

For volume, we need to multiply the values of the different cells together. As a result, we use the formula for multiplying the values of different cells together (I know, I know =.=)

a.k.a =(column and row of the cell of the original number)*(column and row of the cell of the original number)*(column and row of the cell of the original number)
(Refer to the formulas section for examples)

This will definitely vary for different geometrical shapes. Go to the formulas to find out how to calculate pi.

OK! THE END FOR FIRST SECTION. at least all i can remember...

2. Formulas

Just several formulas you may find useful. Not all but enough (I think…)

Formula for adding a fixed value to the original number:

=(column and row of the cell of the original number)+value you want to add

Eg =C3+2

Formula multiplying the values of different cells together:

=(column and row of the cell of the original number)*(column and row of the cell of the original number)*(column and row of the cell of the original number)

* equals times

So, this basically means this:

Eg =B3*C3*D3

Formula for calculating pi:

=PI()*(cell number of radius)^2

PI is pi but in caps

^2 is square

Eg (for the volume of a cylinder) =(PI()*(F3)^2)*G3

You can create formulas on your own with the symbols and calculate the volume of the shapes. Its really easy~(:

THE END

3. Other miscellaneous stuff that you have to take note of

-convert everything to 2 decimal places (at least that's what Mrs Fong recommends)

-Summary of symbols for Excel:
^= (to the) power (of___)
*= multiplication
PI= pi

-2 pieces of the final copy must be printed BUT one must be the one with the table and every thing whereas must be the one with all the formulas. for this, you need to press CTRL and the button with this ~ on it

Eg CTRL+~

YAY THE END HAVE FUN PPL HAPPY HOLIDAYSSSS

ps: can someone please revive this blog? it is SERIOUSLY DEAD=.= oh and also, if any part of this entry is wrong or inaccurate, please tell me or else everyone will be making the same mistakes

thanks~<3
